Westmoreland Manor is seeking applicants who are interested in becoming Certified Nurse Aides through our Nurse Aide training program at Westmoreland Community College (WCCC)! Students enrolled in the course are also employed at Westmoreland Manor as a unit assistant ($12.09/hour) until the training class is complete. Once complete, employees are nurse aide trainees ($15.37/hr) until they take state certification exams. Once certified, employees are paid $16.71 per hour and are eligible to bid to full-time, or transfer into other applicable CNA positions as available. The course is three days per week, with shifts as a unit assistant coordinated around your school schedule. The class schedule is set by WCCC and class begins March 21st! Clinical sessions for the course are being held at long-term care facility. Unit assistants participate in the care of residents, under the supervision of the Charge Nurse, by assisting unit staff and enabling staff additional time for direct resident care. Once the course is completed and as individuals become certified, duties include basic nursing care (ADL’s) including bathing, dressing, feeding, and transporting residents under the supervision of the Charge Nurse. CNA job duties include but are not exclusive or all-inclusive:
Positioning residents, assisting with range of motion
Feeding
Checking incontinent residents; changing soiled briefs and any soiled linen; washing residents and checking skin integrity
Sorting and distributing residents’ clothing
Filling water pitchers and passing waters
Taking resident vital signs as directed and reporting observed changes
Applicants must be a high school graduate or equivalent and have physical ability to do heavy lifting. Prior experience in long-term care preferred. We cover the cost of the course including the course materials and certification exam. Applicants will not be compensated for their time in the class nor will clinical sessions be paid, however you will have employment with Westmoreland Manor..
Note: Actual dates for the nurse aide training class are at the discretion of the College. Dates subject to notice at any time. Enrollment in course requires meeting deadlines for documentation set forth by WCCC and Westmoreland Manor and submitting materials required and spots are limited and first-come first-serve. Perfect attendance is required for all courses. If you need to miss a class, a make-up must be coordinated with WCCC. The student is responsible for any fees associated with a make-up class and an alternate class being offered is not guaranteed; it is up the College to offer a make-up.
