Overview:

 

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) functions in advanced nursing practice under the direction of the Hospice Director, and in collaboration with the Hospice Medical Director(s) to manage medical and nursing needs of hospice patients in the home and nursing facilities.This person performs the duties of the Registered Professional Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse consistent with established standards of practice, the goals of St. Johns and the Employee Code of Conduct and Missouri League of Nursing. Performs related duties as assigned. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.


Qualifications:

 

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.  Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, certificate or Maste'rs level.

Licensure: Licensed as a Registered professional Nurse in the State of Missouri.  Certification or pending certification by the American Nurses Association as either Gerontological Nurse Practitioner or either as an Adult or Family Nurse Practitioner with experience in management of older adults in primary care, hospice, and/or long term care preferred.  Must be licensed as a Registered professional Nurse in the State of Arkansas prior to seeing patients in that state.

Experience: Must have demonstrated clinical expertise in his/her area; and an ability to excel in communication, human relations, and organizational skills.

Certification/Registration: None.

Other skills & knowledge (skills, knowledge, abilities): Requires the individual to be self-motivated and be able to work independently.  Physical demands vary according to daily tasks.  Requires travel to patient homes and nursing home facilities throughout the entire Hospice service area.  Physical demands vary also as associated with clinical nursing.

Preferred Licensure: Licensed as a Registered professional Nurse in the State of Missouri and Arkansas.  Certification or pending certification by the American Nurses Association as either Gerontological Nurse Practitioner or either as an Adult or Family Nurse Practitioner with experience in management of older adults in primary care, hospice, and/or long term care preferred.  Must obtain license as a Registered  Advanced Practice Nurse in the State of Arkansas within 6 months of hire.

Preferred Experience: Experience working with Hospice and/or palliative care patient's.
