Job Summary:
Under the direction of the PCU Clinical Coordinator, Charge Nurse, or RN Staff Nurse, the Patient Care Technician performs in three capacities as a monitor tech, CNA or in the unit secretary capacity.
Essential Duties:
Acts as a receptionist for the unit. Acts as a communication liaison by greeting new admissions, greeting and directing visitors, employees, and physicians courteously and pleasantly and determines their needs in a helpful, proactive manner.
Answers questions patiently and expediently, and gives non-medical information and directions; relays messages in person, on the phone or intercom.
Transcribes physician orders accurately. Orders labs, diets and tests for all patients on the unit. accurately
Collaborates with the nursing team to expedite the admission, transfer and discharge of patients.
Notifies the switchboard, main desk, and/or appropriate personnel in case of fire, disaster, or code situations.
Answers the patient call system graciously and expediently directs the nursing team to assist as needed in a timely manner.
Maintains staffing records and beeper lists for his/her shift.
Initiates, maintains, and breaks down medical chart records for all patients on unit.
Will not take verbal or telephone orders from physicians.
Ensures important patient data is brought to the attention of appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
Receives report from the Monitor Tech on the previous shift and gives an accurate report to the oncoming Monitor Tech.
Identifies and immediately reacts appropriately to all life threatening arrhythmias.
Notifies the appropriate staff nurse immediately if a change in rhythm occurs.
Follows all Telemetry Essential Functions.
Ensures equipment is available, in proper place, and maintained in a working condition.
Utilizes safety equipment as per hospital policies to ensure for own and co-worker safety needs.
Accepts and follows through on tasks delegated by the nurse, primary care partner, and/or supervisor.
Ensures efficient delivery of patient care and reflects effective utilization of resources.
Performs within the boundaries of certification and uses good judgment when performing patient care duties.
Performs POCT QC’s with proper training and orientation when required.
Demonstrates ability in the care and handling of patients in all age groups related to practice area; including special consideration of their specific needs.','!*!License/Certification:
Current license as a Certified Nursing Assistant issued by the state of Oregon, with CNA-2 Registry in acute care required.
BLS required within 30 days of hire.
Experience:
Current patient EKG monitoring experience preferred.
Must be able to operate specialized patient monitoring equipment in the performance of this role.
Familiar with medical terminology, spelling, and medications is preferred.
Unit clerical training and or experience with hospital background preferred.
Required to demonstrate skill with office procedures, keyboard skills and familiarity with computer operations.
Education:
High school graduate or equivalent.
Must successfully pass a Basic EKG Arrhythmia course within 60 days of hire. ','We’re an equal opportunity employer.
