Description:

Based in the Faculty of Health, the School of Nursing and Midwifery programmes in the fields of adult, child and mental health nursing and in midwifery have been designed with our students’ career and the future needs of the workforce in mind. The School works in partnership with local NHS trusts to drive forward clinical research and support students in their learning to become the best nurses and midwives they can be. State-of-the-art facilities and equipment help students maximise their potential and develop their core skills, preparing them to embark on exciting and rewarding careers. The School offers further support for student career and professional development in the areas of healthcare, surgical care practice, emergency care and general practice nursing. An interdisciplinary approach to research covers sustainability, the evolution of services, use of new genetic knowledge and technologies, the ageing population, use of internet and mobile technologies, changes in clinical education, contemporary nursing, and how knowledge is translated into practice and policy. The School of Nursing and Midwifery deliver a suite of undergraduate and postgraduate apprenticeship programmes. The key focus of the apprenticeship practice educator role will be to liaise with placement providers, practice assessors/supervisors, stakeholders, programme leads and the Central Apprenticeship Hub ensuring the learning needs of the apprentice are met and that the apprentices are working towards meeting the knowledge, skills and behaviours as outlined in the relevant apprenticeship standard. The role includes monitoring of professional, practice and academic requirements in line with university regulations; NMC standards; relevant standards set by the Institute of Apprenticeship and requirements set by Ofsted. This role will include supporting apprentices practice learning needs, organising and supporting practice learning, feedback, and liaison with placement providers, programme leads to ensure students learning needs and employer needs are being met. You will also be encouraged to contribute to the wider teaching and learning experiences within the School to support the development of an academic career. We offer apprenticeships within our undergraduate and post graduate provision alongside our CPD programmes. The University of Plymouth Clinical Schools initiative is an exciting development, through which applied nursing and midwifery research focuses on topics that are timely and relevant to advancing the quality of care. Existing clusters of research, including Applied Health Genetics, e-health and Sustainability, Society and Heath, continue to attract external funding and PhD students. You will be registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council as a Registered Nurse and should possess appropriate professional qualifications, relevant post registration experience as a nurse and ideally a Degree in health or a related subject.
