JOB SUMMARY

PRN RN OPPORTUNITY ON MEDICAL CARDIOLOGY PCU SPECIALIZINGIN THE CARE AND MANAGEMENT OF ACUTE AND CHRONIC HEART FAILURE AND OTHER CVI AND MEDICAL CONDITIONS. THEY SERVE AS THE ALTERNATE UNIT FOR MEDICINE OBSERVATION PATIENTS.

THIS 26 BED TELEMETRY PCU IS PART OF CARILION'S CARDIOVASCULAR INSTITUTE. PRIMARILY MONDAY-FRIDAY, 8A - 5PSCHEDULE WITH FLEXIBLE HOURS.

Performs significant job responsibilities:

*Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates patient care in order to optimize patient outcomes for patients of all ages as appropriate to service area. *Determines and performs within clinical, leadership and/or education pathways to support (direct/indirect) quality patient care services and performance improvement through anticipating and effectively functioning in crisis/emergency situations based on sound judgment, escalation and use of advanced skills. *Manages resources, establishes priorities, and modifies environment to meet patient care needs. *Collaborates with case management and social work to facilitate throughput. *Assist in the coordination of the admission, transfer and discharge process across disciplines and service lines. *Actively contributes to the overall positive patient experience through the use of excellent customer service skills. *Utilizes bed tracking technology and collaborates with leadership and transfer center to facilitate throughput. *Consistently delivers the best in customer service with leadership and transfer center to facilitate throughput. *Consistently deliver the best in customer service and patient care.  As a team member, demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with patients, families, visitors and other employees. *Champion Carilion's mission, vision and values; comply with the polices and procedures, ethical standards and code of conduct set forth by the company. *Serve as Charge Nurse support by completing charge nurse responsibilities as needed. *Assist with various audits as appropriate for service area. *Maintain patient safety during off campus medical appointments during inpatient stay.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduate of accredited nursing program. BSN preferred.

Experience: Minimum 1 year acute care required; 2 years preferred

Licensure/Certification: Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. AHA-BLS-ACLS certification required.

Other: Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills and customer service skills; must demonstrate positive leadership role modeling and problem resolution skills. Knowledgeable of basic computer and phone applications. Must successfully complete orientation and maintain requirements. Position requires lifting and long periods of standing bending, pushing, pulling, reaching, walking, etc. May be exposed to infectious diseases, bio-hazard and hazardous materials including regulated wastes, and combative patients.
