As an LPN or licensed practical nurse, your duty is to help take care of the patients that are injured or sick. You will be working under the supervision of a physician or registered nurse. To obtain a license for LPN, you will have to complete a program at a school that is accredited. You will also have to take and pass the state exam for the board of nursing. The tasks of an LPN all depends on where they are employed - each state is different.

The Fastest Way to Receive an LPN License

With a licensed practical nurse license, you will be able to provide basic bedside care to patients. You will have other tasks that include taking blood pressure, respiration and pulse. They are also qualified to administer injections and address or clean wounds. Some also help patients with daily tasks, such as giving baths, dressing, eating or grooming. In some instances licensed practical nurses supervise nursing assistants. Other tasks an LPN may have include taking specimen samples from patients for testing and a variety of other clinical procedures. Filing paperwork is another task they may be left to deal with, along with completing and submitting insurance forms and forms of referral.

There are a variety of LPN programs that are available and are only about a year long. These are available in vocational schools, community colleges and tech schools. The programs are sometimes limited, meaning they will only accept a certain amount of students annually. To find schools in your area, you can browse around online. Submit applications to multiple institutions to enhance your chances of getting into a nursing school. If you have any references from prior employers, physicians or other health care professionals, this can help you get into certain programs that require them.
