You are responsible for ensuring that all the patients are being cared for correctly and that the functions of the ward are demonstrated effectively. To become a head nurse, you will have to go train and go to school for many years.

Step One: The first thing you need to do is apply for admission into a nursing program. It will take about a year of training to become a nurse before being able to obtain a position in the field. You have the option of either going to a nursing school or a community college. You can also attend a four year college. There are two main types of nurses, LPNs and RNs, which could take a year to 18 months to complete. You can also obtain a two year or four year college degree. Most employers want to hire nurses that have an RN degree.
Step Two: Begin attending your nursing classes.
Step Three: Study and complete your education and clinical term. You will learn about everything to do with nursing. You will work in a hospital fulltime in order to get some hands on experience.
Step Four: Once you have completed your courses, you will need to study for and pass the NCLEX exam.
Step Five: Now, it's time to begin working in the field to gain more professional experience. You will need a lot of it in order to become a head nurse. You can join a nursing organization and attend meetings in order to network with other nurses in your area as well.
