The certified nursing assistant is required to chart the condition, daily activities and behavior of their patients. The nurse is required to be able to communicate with their patients and the members of the staff they work with. Keeping records of food and liquid intake, bowel movements, urination, vital signs and medications consumed are all required of the CNA.
Ensuring that your patient is clean and has proper hygiene is one of the responsibilities of the nurse. Some of the duties include bathing, grooming, brushing teeth, shaving and clipping the nails of the patients that are unable to do these things themselves.
Keeping the home or room of the patient clutter free and tidy, such as taking out the trash and ensuring clean sheets are on the bed at all times, are another duty of the certified nursing assistant.
Some patients are bedridden and need help with using the restroom. The nursing assistant is required to help the patient by emptying catheter bags, bedpans and getting into the restroom when needed.
Serving patients with nutritious foods is another role of the CNA. Ensuring that they are getting the supplements they need is necessary. In some cases, the nurse helps patients that are homebound with grocery shopping and preparing meals.
