You will be assisting doctors, carrying supplies, performing tasks that a doctor is not needed for but a medical processional is, and taking care of patients. This last part is particularly tricky as many nurses have forgotten that the patients are important and just see nursing as a paycheck. Under no circumstances should you enter into nursing or any medical field if you are just in it to earn money.
The field is supposed to help people heal and heal peacefully. Those that do understand how to properly conduct themselves in this field and prioritize patients over other matters will go far. In fact once you're a nurse the entire medical field is yours to exploit. Both men and women have found their calling in nursing and it can lead to some great job positions.
Patience and perseverance will do you the most good in medicine and if you continue your education you may advance further. Some nursing jobs allow you to continue your education and eventually become a doctor. Which area of expertise is up to you and your personal tastes. Some people take nurse jobs because they want to help children. Others take them because they want to work with the sick and injured in general.
Finally other people take up nursing to help people in physical therapy. Those than want to become nurses and help people whole heartedly are truly few and far between. But those that want to advance far in their medical careers have to start out here. However this offers the greatest choice availability of any position.
Once you commit to any one of the sub fields that are in the medical field you have to stay in it or start your education over for a different field. Nurses that want to become surgeons or surgeon's assistants have to study hard and continue their medical education. Those that wish to work as recovery specialists have to focus less on dealing with sickness and disease and more on restorative therapies and treatments. Then there are the multitude of other sub fields that are simply too large to be covered here.
Simply put being a nurse offers you great opportunities for advancement either as a doctor, aid, head nurse, or even higher if you so choose. Nursing jobs do take a lot of commitment though. You'll have to deal with your share of unruly patients and visitors. You'll also have to do some of the more menial tasks. Aside from the fact that nurse jobs aren't glorious all the time they are still a necessity.
The medical field is heavily dependent on nurses to take care of patients. Those that aren't in need of doctors still need help and treatments. When this happens having a qualified nurse around can be a godsend. Just remember that patience will help you immensely.
