The profession offers a decent salary. Depending on your experience you will be able to get anything between $ 72,000 and $ 100,000 a year. Besides the salary, nurse practitioners get lower cost medical and dental benefits and some may get them even at zero cost. Unlike doctor's assistants, they can have their own practice. But they have to follow certain guidelines. Thus they are their own bosses.
It looks everything is bright. Isn't it? But it isn't. There is a darker side also. Sometimes what you get may not compensate with the work you put in at the end of the day. On some days the work becomes very tiring and you will not be able to sit even for a minute. You have to do night shifts as well. Often, you have to do double shifts. In other words, you have to reschedule your daily routine so that you can attend to work in the night. This may have a telling effect on your health. So you must be able to take all this in its stride.
The story doesn't end here. All your patients are not soft natured and polite. Some of them may be definitely difficult to handle. Their non-cooperative and rough temperament may put you in a tight spot. Even when you have given them the best you can, they may not appreciate your efforts. Of course, you can take this as a part of your job.
By and large it is a noble profession and it gives you the honor and dignity you cherish.
